The club is launching a Tuesday night group ride. This ride will focus
on adhering to the mission of GMBC (sharing the road and riding responsibly)
while helping riders to get a good workout. The roads we will use have
little traffic and each week we will ride a different route. Keep in
mind that this is work in-progress and it may take some time to work out the
kinks. Online maps of our different routes will be coming soon.
Where and When
- Meeting time
- Up to (and including) last Tuesday in April:
~5:30pm (be on road by 5:45pm)
- Up to (and including) last Tuesday in August:
~5:45pm (be on road by 6:00pm)
- Meeting Place
- Parking
- Limited parking at the Round Church.
Alternatives include the
Park & Ride,
Richmond
Post Office/Town Ctr, Richmond Volunteers Green (next to
On The Rise Bakery--a great place to visit after a hard effort!).
NOTE: If parking on the north sides of the river, use the
pedestrian lane/side walk for crossing the bridge, or WAIT in
traffic for the light to turn green. This ride will get a lot
of negative press if riders are running this high-profile
traffic light to get to/from the meeting location.
Groups and
Etiquettes
- Groups Will be Formed
- Each group will contain no more than 10.
- A monitor will be designated to oversee each.
- Each rider will be responsible for their actions.
WE WANT NO DISGRUNTLED MOTORISTS.
- Riders' Abilities will be matched
- The split will be based on USCF & Mtn Bike
category, and request/experience. For
example:
- Fastest - Road Category Pro/1/2/3 (Mtn Bike
Pro/Expert).
- Next Fastest - Road Category 3/4/5 and experienced
non-racers (Mtn Bike Expert/Intermediate/Novice)
- Least Fastest - Non racers or anyone who
wants to ride in this group.
- WOMEN: You can choose your pack.
- Pack Etiquette
- No riding two abreast in areas with limited
visibility or busier roads. We must share the road with
other users of the road just as we ask the same of them.
- All riders will stop at stop signs/traffic
lights.
- Riders at front will announce turns that the pack
is making an riders at the front and back will use the proper
hand-signals to alert traffic.
- Riders at back will announce overtaking
traffic.
- Riders in front will announce all hazardous
situations: turning vehicles, stop signs,
and pedestrian and obstacle hazards.
- NO ONE will get left behind in a group unless
they have given notice (with groups of matched abilities, this
should not be common).
Workouts
and Routes and Possibilities
- Each week we will use a different route.
- It is possible each group may head on a different
route based on group decision.
- From our starting point we can access flattish,
rolling, and/or hilly terrain. Each week will have a theme.
- For example, flat and fast, hill attacks on
rolling, hill intervals, and extended climbing.
