Cancellations due to Weather or Town Events (Under Construction)
(last updated: 6/28//2010)

Weather or a town event can sometimes get in the way of a TT, and when either do, the event will be cancelled because of safety concerns.  Cancelling an event isn't taken lightly, and in most cases it's the right decision.  But if weather is the factor, as you know it can change quickly and the decision to cancel turns out to be the wrong call.

In order to reach competitors and volunteers, the decision will be made before 4:45 pm.

What will cause a TT to be cancelled?

  • Thunderstorms looming in the area, torrential rain, high winds, fog (or low visibility) or anything that could potentially cause an unsafe condition for racers, volunteers, and motorists.

  • Local events on the course that, for example, cause an increase in traffic flow, etc.

  • How is this decision communicated?

  • An email will be sent to the club's listserve (it is recommended that you subscribe to it for the latest info from GMBC)

  • If time permits, the GMBC website will be updated.

  • When will the determination be made and how?

  • The call to cancel a TT will be made by 4:45pm on event day.

  • All of the following will be used in making the decision: weather radar, the forecast, watches and warning and current conditions.

  • Note: if the weather is questionable, depending on the timing, an email will be sent out asking for second opinions.

  • Will the event be rescheduled?

  • If the event is a championship course (So. Greenbush, Jonesville and Huntington) it will be rescheduled.  Other venues are likely not to be rescheduled.
