Rules & Regulations
Below are important details for timers and for riders. Thanks in advance to all
of our helpers and to racers for making the series fun and safe!
We can't have this series without your support. Please contact
Kevin if any questions arise.
Instructions for Timers
- Arrive at least 1/2
hour before start to familiarize yourself with timing gear.
- Riders will sign
up on the start sheet.
The number to the left of their name indicates start position
(for example, if Vince Blummer is number 11, he will leave
11-minutes after the stopwatch starts—in other words, at the
11-minute mark).
- To start race, at
start area
announce that you are about to start the stopwatches.
-
Riders
will leave at one-minute intervals (rider 1 will go at the 1-minute
mark, rider 2 at the 2-minute mark, etc.).
- At finish,
as riders cross the line, yell “Number” to remind them to yell their
start position. Press SPLIT button as they cross.
For that start position, record the time indicated on the stop
watch. For example, if “eleven” is yelled, record the time
indicated on the watch to the 11th start position. If no
number is yelled, just make a note as to color of jersey, and record
the time.
- To calculate the
finish time, just subtract the start position from the elapsed time
(for example, if the start position is 11 and the elapsed is
:53:03.94, the finish time is :42:03.94).
IMPORTANT:
- Helmet usage is
mandatory.
- At start area,
keep riders to right of fog line as they wait for their
start.
- Riders MUST RIDE
SINGLE file in warm-up/cool-down. Please enforce this.
- Riders who miss
their start-time can go in the next available start-slot. Note the
change.
- Be familiar with
the course and rules.
Instructions for Riders
Bicycling can be a dangerous activity on the road, and you are riding at
your own risk at every event. GMBC assumes no liability and the club
only provides you a time that it took you to ride the course. All
routes are open to traffic and you are responsible for obeying all
traffic laws governed by the State of Vermont and for presenting a
positive image to motorists. We ask that you agree to and adhere
to the following:
Be familiar with the
course, know the turns, intersections, and fast down hills.
- Read the
Instructions for Timers
for insight into how events are run.
- A helmet is
mandatory and eye protection is recommended.
- Your bicycle must
not be in disrepair.
- Ride on the right
side of the travel lane so traffic can easily pass you.
Do not ride out in the road unless in areas where riding in the lane
is safest (such as on winding and/or fast descents).
- Do not ride
two abreast unless passing.
Any riders found to be impeding the flow of traffic will be
disqualified. We need your corporation on this touchy subject.
- When passing
other riders,
do so as quickly and safely as possible.
- On the start sheet,
the number to the left of your name indicates the number of minutes
after the stopwatch starts that you will leave at (for example, if
you sign up at the 11th position, you will leave at the
11-minute mark).
- When finishing,
please yell your start position to the timers so they can
record your elapsed time. If you fail to do this, your time many
not be recorded.
- Don’t miss your
start time.
An easy way to avoid this is to start your watch when the official
watch starts. This way you’ll always know what rider is at the
start line.
